Keep to the safe side of the bush edge. If a snake moves from a yard into reserve vegetation, do not follow it downhill or search beneath decking.
Warrimoo Avenue: distinguish the driveway from the trail
St Ives Chase is a residential pocket bordered by extensive bushland. Warrimoo Avenue is an important location reference, but a home entrance and a signed bush-track entry are different places to meet. Give the street number, driveway branch and whether the last position was on private land or beyond a reserve boundary.
Ku-ring-gai Council describes the Warrimoo trail network as being in ecologically significant bushland. Read current signs and closure information before entering a trail. Do not use an informal shortcut or cross reserve vegetation to keep a snake in sight.

Report the boundary and the last landmark
- Bush-facing garden: identify the retaining wall, fence post, drain or garden edge. Secure pets indoors and leave leaf litter, rocks and stored timber undisturbed.
- Long or shared driveway: explain the correct branch, locked gate, stairs and turning space. Keep the lane clear for safe access.
- Track or oval edge: use the signed entry and the last junction or facility you passed. Keep children and dogs away and remain on the formed route.
If sight is lost, record the direction and stop looking through cover. Do not try to pin, trap or kill the snake. A photo is optional and should only be taken from an already safe position.
After a possible bite, make the emergency call
Suspected snakebite: call 000. Keep the person still, apply pressure immobilisation and follow the ambulance operator. Do not wash the bite, cut it or use a tourniquet. Healthdirect first-aid guidance. Do not walk or drive to hospital unless emergency services direct you.
For pet exposure, telephone a vet and keep the animal as still as practical. St Ives Veterinary Hospital, 7/351 Mona Vale Road, lists 02 9983 9494. Its published after-hours referral is Northside Emergency Vet Services on 02 9452 2933. Call for current directions and advice. A relocation visit does not replace veterinary care.
Access routes are not straight lines through the park
St Ives is the direct road approach south of the Chase. North Turramurra is close on a regional map but separated by the national-park landscape; do not assume a direct road crossing. Turramurra and Gordon offer broader nearby road-corridor references. Use the Upper North Shore hub to select the right locality.
2025 observation map: grid G4 contains 34 records across the whole approximately 11 by 9 km square, not St Ives Chase. It does not establish a sighting in this suburb. This is not a danger score, live tracker or SITC call-out count.
What happens when you call
Snakes in the City records the location and access details, then coordinates an available licensed catcher according to location and availability. Confirm the call-out fee by phone. Attendance timing and capture are not guaranteed.
Have the street or trail entrance, last fixed landmark, access restrictions and any human or pet exposure ready. Give current observations rather than assuming every bush-facing property has the same risk.
