Snakes in the City

North Ryde reports can come from a back garden, a loading bay or a river-side path. Keep clear and identify the entrance that a catcher can safely use.

Start with the setting

Home or townhouse

Bring children and pets inside away from the sighting. Explain whether access is through the front drive, visitor parking or a side gate. Leave retaining walls and stored garden materials undisturbed.

Workplace or managed complex

Keep staff away from the immediate area and nominate one contact. Give the building, gate or loading-bay number, reception arrangements and any induction requirement. Do not send a staff member to move the snake.

North Ryde Park or national-park edge

North Ryde Park is on Cressy Road, with playing space, paths and adjoining natural areas. Use a named facility and the nearest public entrance. For Lane Cove National Park, distinguish the Riverside Drive approach from Lane Cove Road from a residential property entrance.

2025 observation map: grid G4 contains 34 records across the whole approximately 11 by 9 km square, not North Ryde. It does not establish a sighting in this suburb. This is not a danger score, live tracker or SITC call-out count.

Three details to give the office

  1. Where to enter: street address, business name or signed park entrance, plus the correct gate.
  2. What you last saw: the fixed object nearest the snake and its direction of travel. Say clearly if you have lost sight of it.
  3. Who is exposed: any possible human or pet bite, people nearby, and whether access is secured.

Watch only from a protected position. Do not block the snake, shift pallets or hose it out. If it enters vegetation, stop searching.

Snakes in the City records the location and access details, then coordinates an available licensed catcher according to location and availability. Confirm the call-out fee by phone. Attendance timing and capture are not guaranteed.

Keep urgent-care numbers separate

Suspected snakebite: call 000. Keep the person still, apply pressure immobilisation and follow the ambulance operator. Do not wash the bite, cut it or use a tourniquet. Healthdirect first-aid guidance. Do not walk or drive to hospital unless emergency services direct you.

For pets, call a vet immediately and minimise movement. SASH North Ryde provides 24/7 emergency care at 1 Richardson Place: 02 9889 0289. Another emergency option is North Shore Veterinary Hospital, 63 Herbert Street, Artarmon: 02 9436 1213, open 24/7 for emergencies. Telephone the clinic for immediate advice rather than waiting for a relocation visit.

Navigate through Parramatta–Ryde

Macquarie Park is the adjoining business and university-side reference; Ryde covers the residential approach south; Marsfield is a useful guide for the adjoining western approach. Chatswood West is across the river via bridge routes. For regional coverage, use the Parramatta–Ryde hub.
