Snakes in the City · Local guide
Snake catcher South Penrith
If your dog has found a snake, bring the dog away only if you can do so without approaching the snake. Keep other people clear. Call a vet immediately for possible contact or a bite; call SITC separately for a snake that needs assessment or removal.
Jamison Park: describe the part of the park
Jamison Park serves several activities, including sporting fields, a playspace and a fenced dog park. “At Jamison Park” may not identify the entrance someone needs. Give the nearby road, facility or sign, and describe your location without walking towards the snake. Penrith Council identifies the playspace at 45 York Road and parking access from Batt Street or York Street.
At a sporting fixture, notify the organiser and move participants away from the immediate area. Don’t crowd around, poke the snake with equipment or ask a volunteer to catch it. A park’s presence here is useful location information—not evidence of a recent sighting or unusually high risk.

After an encounter, a normal-looking pet still needs advice
If a pet may have been bitten, keep it quiet and contact a vet immediately, even if it seems to recover. RSPCA advice explains why waiting for obvious bite marks or symptoms is unsafe.
Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital lists South Penrith among the areas it serves. Address: 49 Wentworth Road, Orchard Hills; phone 02 4736 2027. Call immediately to check availability and follow the vet’s directions.
SASH Western Sydney, 1 Rowood Road, Prospect, lists 24-hour emergency care. Phone 02 4067 4951. Call promptly for triage and transport advice; do not delay treatment while waiting for snake removal. These providers are independent of SITC.
For a snake in a yard, garage or shed
Keep the area undisturbed. If the animal has moved behind stored items, tell SITC when and where it disappeared; don’t empty the shed looking for it. Give the exact South Penrith address and explain whether the catcher can use a side entrance without crossing the snake’s position.
Later, check whether toys, stored feed or garden materials make it difficult to see along commonly used paths. Address storage and rodent attractants as practical housekeeping, without assuming any product or fence will make a property snake-proof.
Human snakebite is an ambulance emergency
Human bite emergency: call 000, not a snake catcher. Keep the person still and follow ambulance instructions. Use pressure immobilisation for a bitten limb; do not wash, cut or suck the bite or apply a tourniquet. Healthdirect first-aid guidance.
Nepean Hospital emergency department: Building A, Gate 7, Somerset Street, Kingswood. General enquiries 02 4734 2000. This location is for reference; suspected snakebite needs an ambulance, not a drive to hospital.
