Start by reducing movement. Bring children and pets inside through a different doorway, ask neighbours not to approach and nominate one adult to speak with the catcher. If the animal is on school or club property, alert the responsible staff member so the immediate area can be isolated.
A useful call includes the nearest entrance, whether the yard is fenced, and a landmark such as a drain, retaining wall, trampoline, shed or garden bed.
Bangor’s built areas sit among ridges and gullies with eucalypt canopy, sandstone soils and drainage lines. Mown verges and playing fields create open ground, while back gardens can contain dense edging plants, compost, irrigation and stored sports equipment.
Those features do not prove where a snake came from. They simply explain why the last reliable position—and a quiet route into the property—matters more than speculation.
From a safe position, note movement rather than markings. Is the snake crossing open lawn, resting beneath a vehicle, following a fence, or entering cover? Do not kneel for a low photograph or lift the object it reached.
Diamond Pythons and Red-bellied Black Snakes are among the better-known snakes of the wider Sydney region; Eastern Browns and small species can also occur. Treat an unidentified animal as potentially dangerous.
