Heathcote is a narrow residential settlement between Royal and Heathcote national parks. Rocky ground, steep bush tracks and freshwater drainage make it particularly important not to pursue a snake once it leaves a house, driveway or formed path.

A sighting at a Princes Highway property, a quiet side street or a park-facing yard can involve very different access. Tell our team whether the animal is indoors, at the street edge, below a retaining wall or already moving into parkland.
Walkers should keep dogs close and give the snake a wide route away. A snake on a public trail is not an invitation to gather a crowd or move it with a stick.
NSW National Parks describes Heathcote National Park as a landscape of native vegetation, rocky outcrops and freshwater pools. Nearby Royal National Park adds extensive woodland, heath, wetland and forest communities. These habitats support wildlife but do not justify claims that a particular snake has been recorded at a particular house.
Water and rock can inform a catcher’s assessment. They cannot safely identify a snake without a clear view.
Red-bellied Black Snakes use damp habitat, while Diamond Pythons can occupy wooded and rocky Sydney environments. Eastern Browns and smaller species remain possible across the region.
