Tregear reserve, creek and home guide

Tregear snake catcher

A sighting on a Ropes Creek path needs an entrance and direction. A sighting behind a Tregear home needs a gate and cover point. Keep those two scenes separate, create distance and call with the details that locate the snake without another search.

Reserve side and home side use different control points

At Tregear Reserve

Blacktown City Council describes Tregear Reserve at Wilkes Crescent as a sportsfield with playground, dog off-leash area and a walking path that follows Ropes Creek towards Forrester Road for about 1.6 km. Keep dogs under control, stop others using the immediate path section and name the Wilkes Crescent entrance or a fixed field landmark.

At a residence

Bring people and pets inside without crossing the sighting route. Keep garage, side passage or backyard access quiet. Do not lift roofing sheets, toys, garden edging or stored materials to check whether the snake is still there.

Four facts that make a Tregear call useful

1

Exact entrance: the house number and gate, or the named reserve entrance—not simply “near Ropes Creek”.

2

Last position: the fence panel, drain, field edge, shed corner or path side where the snake was last visible.

3

Current movement: people, dogs, vehicles, sport or work that needs to stop around the scene.

4

Access limits: locked gates, narrow side paths, loose pets, steep ground or a route that crosses the last-seen point.

Snakes in the City takes these details and coordinates an available licensed catcher according to availability and location. A general call-out fee applies; confirm it by phone. If the snake has hidden or left, capture cannot be guaranteed.

Do not turn the creek edge into a search

If sight is lost beside the walking path, stay on the formed route and remember the last fixed landmark. Do not enter long grass, vegetation or the creek bank. A photograph is useful only from a stable, safe position using zoom; it is not worth closing the distance.

Tregear’s closest unpublished boundary pages are not yet safe destinations, so this guide links to established useful routes instead: Mount Druitt for the southern service and hospital side, Plumpton for the eastern approach, and Ropes Crossing beyond the creek and Shanes Park corridor.

Emergency steps for people and pets

Possible human snakebite

Call 000. Keep the person still, apply pressure immobilisation and follow the ambulance operator. Do not wash the bite or drive the patient unless emergency services direct you. Healthdirect gives the current first-aid sequence. Mount Druitt Hospital, 75 Railway Street, provides emergency care, but a possible snakebite should go through 000.

Possible pet bite

Call a veterinarian immediately. Mount Druitt Veterinary Clinic, 1 Bulolo Drive, Whalan, lists 02 9625 9508. For 24/7 emergency care, SASH Western Sydney, 1 Rowood Road, Prospect, lists 02 8609 9444. Call while safely preparing to travel. These details do not claim either provider stocks a specific antivenom.

Grid C4 is a whole-square label

Tregear falls within grid C4 on the 2025 Sydney observation report. The 35 records apply to the whole approximately 11 by 9 km square, not Tregear. They do not establish a sighting in the suburb and are not a danger score, live tracker or Snakes in the City call-out count.

Use the Blacktown and North-West Sydney hub for regional navigation, or the main service-area directory for a wider search.

Keep the route clear and the description specific

Call with the Tregear entrance, last-seen landmark and current hazards. Do not follow the snake into cover or along the creek edge.
