Oxley Park yard, reserve and access guide

Oxley Park snake catcher

In a street of fenced yards, side passages and active community spaces, the first task is not identification. It is deciding which route must stop moving and describing a catcher’s safe way in.

Park, road or yard: control the right space

Private yard

Bring people and pets indoors without crossing the snake’s route. Leave lawn equipment, bins, timber and pot plants where they are. Note the exact object or gap used for cover.

Shared drive

Pause vehicles and foot traffic. If several homes use the driveway, choose one resident to call and one gate or entry point for the catcher. Do not let different people search from opposite ends.

Public reserve

Penrith City Council places Brian King Park at 36 Braddon Street and lists playground, bike and accessible-path facilities. Ridge Park and Cec Blinkhorn Oval are on the Great Western Highway side. Use the reserve name, closest street entrance and a fixed landmark; keep park users clear without pursuing the snake.

If the snake disappears at a fence or drain

Do not reach through, lift a grate or move the material beside it. Mark the last point mentally or with a safe distant reference, record the time and keep the area still. A photo can help only when it is taken from a protected position without stepping closer.

What to say on the phone

Give the Oxley Park address or reserve entrance, the last exact position, whether the snake is indoors or outside, and any locked gate, loose dog, narrow side passage or work activity. Snakes in the City records those details and coordinates an available licensed catcher according to availability and location. A general call-out fee applies; confirm it by phone. A hidden or departed snake may not be located.

Tight side access deserves a short plan

Before anyone arrives, decide which entrance avoids the last-seen area. Do not unlock a gate if doing so requires stepping toward the snake. If access passes through a neighbour’s property, organise permission and one contact person rather than sending the catcher door to door.

The most useful nearby guides follow actual boundaries and approaches: St Marys for the northern town-centre and South Creek side, and Colyton along the eastern residential boundary. For a location west of the suburb, use the Claremont Meadows guide.

Do not choose transport after a suspected bite

Call 000 for any possible human snakebite. Keep the person still, apply pressure immobilisation and follow emergency instructions. Do not wash the bite, use a tourniquet or drive the person unless directed. Healthdirect provides the current sequence. Mount Druitt Hospital at 75 Railway Street provides emergency care, but suspected snakebite transport should be arranged through 000.

For a pet, call a veterinarian immediately. Mamre Road Veterinary Clinic, 43 Mamre Road, St Marys, lists 02 9623 3970 and daily consulting hours. For 24/7 emergency care, SASH Western Sydney, 1 Rowood Road, Prospect, lists 02 8609 9444. Phone first when safe. No statement here guarantees that either provider stocks a specific antivenom.

Grid C4 does not measure danger in Oxley Park

Oxley Park lies in grid C4 on the 2025 Sydney observation report. The 35 records cover the whole approximately 11 by 9 km square, not the suburb. Inclusion does not prove an observation happened in Oxley Park. It is not a danger score, live tracker or count of Snakes in the City call-outs.

Use the Penrith and Lower Blue Mountains service hub for the wider district, or the main service-area directory.

Freeze the route, not the snake

Keep the area quiet and call with the last reliable point and the safest entrance. Do not corner, trap or attempt to move the snake yourself.
