Use the exact landmark and entrance

Parklea is not one type of setting. Blacktown City Council lists Davison Reserve on Satinash Street with a walking path, play space and picnic facilities. The suburb also has residential streets and the Parklea Markets area. A caller at a shared site should identify the entrance, gate or unit and who can authorise access, rather than sending anyone into vegetation to search.

Who needs to keep the area clear?

At home or a rental

Move children and animals indoors. Close access to the relevant room or garden, but do not block the snake’s escape. Tell us if a tenant, owner or strata manager must provide entry.

At a school or sport area

Notify the staff member responsible for the grounds and redirect people from the exact location. Give the catcher a clear entry point. No student or staff member should attempt identification or capture.

Near a path or drain

Stay on open ground at a safe distance. Do not open drain covers, enter long grass, use a hose or move garden material to make the animal reappear.

Wherever it is seen, note the last reliable position and time. If it disappears, report that honestly: a search can be discussed, but capture cannot be guaranteed.

Do not infer the species from the setting

Regional accounts from the Australian Museum describe the eastern brown snake and red-bellied black snake. Their regional occurrence does not establish a Parklea sighting, and colour, a brief glimpse or a photograph taken too close is not reliable enough to determine risk. Treat an unidentified snake cautiously and leave identification to a qualified responder.

Emergency care comes before removal

Suspected bite to a person: call 000

Request an ambulance immediately and keep the person still. Use pressure immobilisation and a splint if possible, following the operator’s directions. Do not wash the bite, cut or suck the wound, apply a tourniquet or try to catch the snake. See Healthdirect’s first-aid guidance.

Public emergency department

Blacktown Hospital emergency department operates 24 hours at 18 Blacktown Road, Blacktown NSW 2148. Hospital phone (02) 9881 8000. Follow ambulance advice on transport; a catcher is not a substitute for medical care.

Pet emergency option

SASH Western Sydney lists 24/7 emergency care at 1 Rowood Road, Prospect NSW 2148; phone (02) 8609 9444. Keep the pet quiet and call ahead for advice and current capacity before travelling.

What to say when booking

Give the full address, the safest entrance, who can grant access, where the animal was last seen and whether it is indoors, outside or near people or animals. A call-out fee applies; the fee and scope are explained before booking. Timing depends on availability and access, so there is no fixed arrival promise. If the snake has disappeared, the outcome of a search cannot be guaranteed.

Counts apply to the whole square, not each suburb listed. A suburb appearing in a square does not mean a snake was recorded in that suburb. These are public observation records, not SITC call-outs, unique snake totals or a measure of danger.
