Shanes Park acreage, creek and gate guide

Shanes Park snake catcher

A rural address is not enough on its own. A safe Shanes Park response begins with the right gate, a clear route past animals and machinery, and the exact shed, paddock edge or cover point where the snake was last seen.

Call SITC · 0411 103 488

Rural calls begin at the gate

Secure people and animals

Move children, pets and livestock away without crossing the snake’s path. Stop mowing, slashing, deliveries and vehicle movements in the affected area.

Name the usable entrance

Give the gate number or road frontage, whether it is locked, the surface condition and any low branches, soft ground or turning limits. Say if the access route passes the last-seen point.

Fix one last reliable position

Use a shed bay, water tank, fence post, feed stack or machinery item. Do not dismantle cover, open a closed structure or send someone into long grass to improve the description.

Call before starting a search

Snakes in the City records the property and access details, then coordinates an available licensed catcher according to availability and location. A general call-out fee applies; confirm it by phone. Travel and capture are not guaranteed until the situation and availability are checked.

A national park boundary is not an invitation to enter

Yiraaldiya National Park is closed to public access

NSW National Parks says the former Shanes Park Reserve is now Yiraaldiya National Park and remains closed while its feral predator-free area is established. Do not enter the park, cross a boundary fence or follow a snake inside. Report a public-land issue through the appropriate land manager and stay on the lawful side of the boundary.

South Creek, reserve access and outbuildings

Creek-side ground

Planning material identifies South Creek along the western and northern part of the Shanes Park precinct. Do not walk into reeds, floodplain vegetation or unstable banks. Give the closest legal road or property access and remain on firm ground.

Community reserve

Blacktown City Council records Reserve 170 at the corner of South Creek Road and Whites Road. If the sighting is there, use the named corner, field edge or amenities area rather than a vague “Shanes Park reserve” description.

For bordering localities and real approach routes, see Ropes Crossing to the south, Llandilo across South Creek, and Berkshire Park to the north-west.

Emergency care: do not improvise

For a possible human snakebite, call 000, keep the person still, apply pressure immobilisation and follow the ambulance operator. Do not wash the bite or drive the patient unless emergency services direct you. Healthdirect provides current snakebite first aid. Mount Druitt Hospital at 75 Railway Street provides emergency care; use 000 for suspected bites rather than choosing transport yourself.

For a pet, call a veterinarian immediately. Mount Druitt Veterinary Clinic, 1 Bulolo Drive, Whalan, lists 02 9625 9508 and consultation hours by appointment. SASH Western Sydney, 1 Rowood Road, Prospect, lists 02 8609 9444 and 24/7 emergency care. Phone while safely preparing to travel. Neither listing is a claim about stocking a particular antivenom.

Grid C4 covers much more than Shanes Park

Shanes Park sits in grid C4 on the 2025 Sydney observation report. The 35 records cover the whole approximately 11 by 9 km square, not this locality. The label does not prove an observation occurred in Shanes Park and is not a danger score, live tracker or count of Snakes in the City call-outs.

The geographically appropriate service hub is Blacktown and North-West Sydney. The main service-area directory provides broader navigation.

Give a gate, route and last-seen point

Call from firm, safe ground. Describe access constraints before anyone travels and never enter closed or restricted land to follow a snake.
