A river-side address needs precise directions
Leonay sits on the western side of the Nepean River below Emu Plains. The suburb is not all foreshore: homes, sloping streets and recreational space need different descriptions. Penrith City Council lists Leonay Oval on Leonay Parade, while its River Road kayak launch is between Buring Avenue and Urbane Street. These are useful landmarks, not evidence of snake sightings.
At a home
Give the street number, side gate or driveway and whether the animal was last visible in a room, under outdoor cover or along a fence. Close access to that space without trapping the snake.
At the oval or river edge
Move people away from the exact spot and identify the path, entrance or responsible site contact. Do not leave a formed path to search through grass or riverbank vegetation.

What a useful call includes
Tell the catcher the last reliable location and time seen, whether the animal is still visible, who can provide access, and whether people or pets are near it. A safe observation from behind a window is more useful than a close-up photograph. Do not lift pots, shift timber, chase the animal or try to force it out with water.
If the snake disappears, keep the area clear and report the last trustworthy point. A search can be discussed, but capture cannot be guaranteed when an animal cannot be located.
If a person may have been bitten
Call 000 immediately and ask for an ambulance. Keep the person still. Apply a pressure-immobilisation bandage and splint if possible, following the emergency operator’s instructions. Do not wash, cut or suck the bite, use a tourniquet or try to catch the snake. Healthdirect explains snakebite first aid. Do not delay medical care for a catcher.
Human and pet care have different destinations
Public emergency department
Nepean Hospital, Derby Street, Kingswood NSW 2747, has a 24-hour emergency department; phone (02) 4734 2000. The ED entrance is Gate 7, Somerset Street. For a suspected bite, call 000 and follow ambulance transport advice.
24-hour veterinary option
Nepean Animal Hospital (WellPet) lists 24/7 emergency care at 50 Mulgoa Road, Regentville NSW, phone (02) 4733 3456. Keep the pet quiet and call the team first for immediate advice and current capacity; do not assume every case can be accepted.
Regional possibilities, not a Leonay sighting list
The Australian Museum describes eastern brown snakes in varied open habitats and modified areas; its red-bellied black snake account covers eastern New South Wales. Those are regional possibilities only. Neither source establishes a sighting at a Leonay address, and colour alone is not a safe identification method.

After the immediate concern
Only once the area is safe, manage grass and vegetation near regularly used paths, tidy stored materials and reduce food sources for rodents. This may reduce concealment but cannot guarantee a snake-free property. A call-out fee applies; scope and fee are discussed before booking, with no fixed arrival promise.
