Snake catcher Norwest

When a snake appears at an office, loading dock or basement car park, the first task is to protect people and control access. Snakes in the City can help the facilities or security contact plan a safe response and reach the correct entrance.

Snake removal for Norwest homes and strata properties

Residents can also call Snakes in the City on 0411 103 488 about a snake in a house, courtyard, garden or shared garage. Give the street address and unit number, then describe the last place the snake was seen. Keep children and pets away and do not move pots, stored items or outdoor furniture to find it.

For an apartment or townhouse complex, tell us which pedestrian gate, intercom or garage entrance provides access. Let the strata manager or building contact know if a shared route is affected, and arrange a meeting point away from the snake. A photo is useful only if it can be taken from an existing safe position; it is not a requirement for calling.

For nearby properties, use our Baulkham Hills snake catcher guide. Confirm catcher availability, access and the call-out fee when booking.

A practical response for a busy building

  1. Isolate the immediate area. Move staff, visitors and contractors away. Close a room or redirect a corridor only if you can do so without nearing the snake. Do not try to pin it or block an escape route.
  2. Name one site contact. A facilities manager, security officer or tenant representative should coordinate the information. Tell us the building name, tenancy, level and last confirmed location.
  3. Arrange safe access. Provide the loading or service entrance, security desk, gate or boom-barrier instructions, after-hours number and any escorted access requirements. Keep the affected route clear.
  4. Preserve the observation. Note the time and direction from a safe position. CCTV can help establish a last location, but it does not make it safe to search under vehicles or in plant rooms.
Suspected snakebite? Call Triple Zero (000) immediately. Keep the person still, use a pressure immobilisation bandage if available and follow ambulance instructions. Do not wash the bite or try to capture the snake.

Where the details of a Norwest call matter

Offices and reception areas

Keep people out of the affected room or section and use another route for visitors. If the snake is inside a room, close the door only when it is safe to do so. Pass on the floor, suite, nearest entry and whether the animal is still visible. Do not ask staff to search cupboards, furniture or ceiling spaces.

Basement parking and ramps

Identify the level, bay, column or ramp, and the nearest lift lobby or stair door. Pause movements through the immediate section so drivers and pedestrians do not approach unseen. Do not start a vehicle or reach under it if the snake may be nearby. Tell the catcher whether clearance height or controlled entry affects access.

Loading docks and service yards

Stop the relevant forklift, delivery or pallet movement. Keep dock staff and drivers back; leave stacked goods and dock equipment undisturbed. Give the exact dock number, roller door, vehicle route and a contact who can meet the catcher without walking through the hazard.

Plant rooms, entrances and landscape edges

Do not send maintenance staff into a plant room or reach around pipework. Guard the doorway from a safe position and note where the snake entered or left. Near a public path or water feature, redirect pedestrians and keep dogs away rather than crowding the animal.

What to tell the catcher and record internally

One short call is more useful than several conflicting reports: exact address and building, floor or basement level, last confirmed sighting time, direction of travel, whether the snake is confined or in open habitat, number of people nearby, and the safe point of entry. If site procedures require it, your manager can record the incident time and actions taken. Ask when calling what information Snakes in the City can provide after attendance; do not assume a particular report or response time is included.

Norwest includes offices, mixed-use buildings and landscaped areas around Norwest Lake and Elizabeth Macarthur Creek, described in The Hills Shire Council’s local walk. That landscape explains why access and sight lines vary across the area; it does not establish a snake at a particular building. A snake moving away in open habitat may not require capture. Discuss the actual situation with the catcher.

Questions for building managers

Can security move the snake out of the building?

Security can keep people away and share observations. Do not attempt capture or containment unless a person is licensed and equipped for that work.

Should we close the entire building?

Control the affected area and any connected access routes according to your site’s safety procedures. The right boundary depends on where the snake was last seen and whether it remains visible; explain this on the call.

What if it disappears behind a parked car or stored pallets?

Keep that section clear and tell the catcher the last confirmed position and time. Do not move the car, stock or pallets to find it.

Can we prevent every future sighting?

No. Review door sweeps and suitable gaps, spilled food or rodent activity, stacked materials and visibility along frequently used entrances. These reduce opportunities for shelter or prey but do not make a site snake-proof.

Explore public snake observations around Norwest

Looking for broader wildlife context? The mapped place point for Norwest falls in square E4 of our 2025 Sydney-region observation report. A suburb can extend into neighbouring squares; this is an orientation guide, not a suburb boundary map.

Counts apply to the whole square, not each suburb listed. A suburb appearing in a square does not mean a snake was recorded in that suburb. These are public observation records, not SITC call-outs, unique snake totals or a measure of danger.
