Eastern Blue-tongue Lizards occur in Sydney gardens and other sheltered habitats. They are non-venomous, but a frightened lizard can bite and break the skin. Leave it space and do not pick it up.

Blue-tongues eat a mixture of plant and animal food, including snails and insects. An uninjured lizard in a safe garden usually needs to be left alone. Keep pets away and take care when mowing or moving stored materials.

For identification and natural-history information, see the Australian Museum’s Eastern Blue-tongue guide.
